Starr International Foundation Gives $1 Million To Earthquake Relief Effort In Haiti

SIF made a $750,000 grant to Partners in Health (PIH) to help the organization deliver medical care to communities devastated by the earthquake. With more than 100 doctors, 600 nurses and 4,000 employees on the ground in Haiti working from 12 existing PIH hospitals which were largely unaffected by the recent earthquake, PIH was among the first emergency medical responders to provide relief services. PIH is currently working to strengthen available medical care in Port-au-Prince and to increase its capacity to treat more serious cases at PIH facilities outside the city. Demand Studios Freelance Community Provides More Than 16,000 New Books to Children in Need

Demand Media, the leader in distributed social media, asked its community of more than 5,000 freelance members of Demand Studios to participate in the "Write for a Cause" program in which writers and copy editors participated in the effort to increase childhood literacy by doing what they do best. Call to Coastguard as three go into water near Menai Bridge
